An Olympic Champion and Hawaiian folk hero. Winning Gold and Silver in the 100 m freestyle and 4x200 m freestyle relay during the years 1912-1924, he was an all around big feet Hawaiian idol. After retiring the Olympic, her then went on the popularize the sport of surfing all around the world. With his homemade board built from a piece of pine from a local hardware store. Duke was also the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming Hall of fame and the Surfing Hall of fame. Duke is also a member of the U.S Olympic Hall of fame. He then went on the act in Hollywood movies where he made connections with people who could further publicize the sport of surfing.It just goes to show, one man, one talented man, from an island in the middle of the sea, made it out there in this is world. He is a Hawaiian folk hero that set the record for anyone to go big or go home.
